Fayetteville Color
November 30, 2008
On Friday I went with my mother to the Dickens Festival in Fayetteville. It was very low key and unexpectedly enjoyable; we got to eat lunch with a caroling choir right behind us. There were tons of people there and there was much fun to be had. I really like the design of their downtown area – they’ve taken to the merging of sidewalks and roads, and there are very few traffic signs (as in the book, the name of which escapes me). I took a couple of pictures of odd things.
There were no cars in the two spots marked by this sign. :) On the same street, we came across what looked like a locksmith shop that had been there forever. They had the two beauties below in their window. This company made some safes that survived the nuclear attack on Hiroshima. It’s easy to see why. Sadly, they were not open and I could not get a better shot.
A New Member of the Family
November 7, 2008
A couple weeks ago my friend Q-Stone posted about a cat he had seen at a pet store in Cary. I knew at once that this cat was the kind of misfit who would fit perfectly into my family of ex-pats, black sheep, adoptees, and semi-feral strays. We picked him up last Friday. So far, he has knocked over a plant pot, clawed my wife’s new chair, and is terrorizing our other three cats in a most good-natured way (you can see Spike’s shoulder in the picture). He woke me up at 3AM this morning by bashing his wet nose into my face. :)
We don’t have a name for him yet. The adoption center had named him Columbo, but it remains to be seen if that name fits (despite his bad eye). I don’t much like three-syllable names, so I’m searching for something better. Meanwhile I refer to him as “the kitten”.
